Career With Ellume
Senior Backend Engineer
Experience: 5+ years
Who we are
At Ellume, we are pioneering the future of clean power. We operate across three verticals—Renewable Energy, Independent Power Production (IPP), Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC), and Technology—committed to driving innovation across the renewable sector.
Our Technology vertical builds software-driven solutions that help operators maximise the efficiency and compliance of their renewable assets, including Ellume360 (a unified OS for Solar, Wind, and BESS), Ellume VECTOR (physics-aware AI for predictive yield), and Ellume BRIDGE (an automated NERC GADS compliance engine).
We are always looking for talented, motivated people eager to contribute, grow, and make a lasting impact. If you are ready to be part of a forward-thinking team building the future of renewable energy infrastructure, we want to hear from you.
What we're looking for
Lead features end to end — take ownership of a feature from problem definition through design, implementation, testing, rollout, and production stability.
Design for scale and reliability — architect backend services and APIs that are scalable, secure, and maintainable, making deliberate trade-offs you can explain.
Navigate the unknown — turn ambiguous, loosely specified problems into clear technical plans, and de-risk early through prototypes and spikes.
Own data at the core — model, structure, and optimise relational and non-relational data stores for correctness and performance.
Oversee delivery operations — work with the team to ensure your features deploy smoothly, are observable in production, and recover gracefully when things go wrong.
Raise the engineering bar — write clean, well-tested code, lead design and code reviews, mentor other engineers, and level up the team's practices.
Collaborate across functions — partner with product, frontend, and operations teams to turn roadmap goals into shipped outcomes.
Applicant requirements
Typically 5+ years of professional backend experience — we weigh scope of ownership over years served.
Deep backend fundamentals: system design, data modeling, concurrency, and API craft, with the architectural understanding to shape how systems are designed, built, and operated.
Comfort with ambiguity — able to break down an unfamiliar problem, make sound architectural decisions, and ask the right questions rather than wait for a complete spec.
Willingness to become highly proficient in Go; hands-on production experience with Go is strongly preferred but candidates from other languages eager to make the jump are welcome.
Working understanding of DevOps — CI/CD pipelines, containers, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Expertise is not required, but you should reason comfortably about how your code builds, ships, and runs.
Nice to have: event-driven architectures and message brokers, multi-tenant SaaS platforms, IoT / telemetry / high-throughput data ingestion, the renewable energy or asset performance domain, and Clean or Hexagonal Architecture principles.
